How do you know if Your Hormones are in Check?

When your hormones are out of sync, you can feel off both emotionally and physically. Nobody should have to live with hormonal imbalances because they can effect your life in ways you don't even realize. The condition of your skin, your sex drive, metabolism, and mood are all determined by the balancing of hormones in your body. The chemistry of the human body can be a tricky thing and can effect your physical and mental health for both men and women. Hormones are very powerful, and it only takes a slight imbalance to throw your body off course, so make sure you keep track of the way you feel overall and look for the signs to know whether your hormones are in check or not.

Hormones can effect men and women differently at any time in their lives. Puberty and menopause are two times where women are most likely to get wacky hormone fluctuations. If you notice a change in your metabolism, sexual desire, weight, mood, food cravings, skin conditions, pain and length of periods,or energy levels your hormones may be off balance.

When people think of hormone imbalances, men are usually forgotten. Men, just like women, are also capable of having hormonal fluctuations. Men have more subtle changes when their hormones start to tip the scales and their symptoms can include decreased libido, weight gain, hot flashes, and depression which are all similar symptoms to women's hormonal imbalance with menopause. When men start to age and their hormones begin to decrease, they are typically fatigued, irritable, unable to build muscle, have soft erections, and have decreased mental and physical activity.

The most common types of hormonal problems found in Americans today are from imbalances with insulin (too much sugar), sex hormones (estrogen or testosterone), thyroid issues and too much cortisol and adrenaline both brought on by stress. It is usually not obvious where a hormonal imbalance is coming from unless you get tested or evaluated by a medical professional. If you feel like your hormones may not be in sync, go to an endocrinologist and get a blood test or have your thyroid biopsied. Specialized testing can help to better diagnose where the problem is coming from and fix it quickly and efficiently.

Not all types of hormonal imbalances can be avoided, but a way to prevent them is to make changes in your lifestyle to make sure that you are healthy and active. Eat a full balanced diet and get regular sleep and exercise to help your hormones stay as naturally leveled as possible.
